What to Expect at the Chiropractor

What to Expect at the Chiropractor
Today at Thriveology in Denver, we want to share a little about what to expect at the chiropractor. If you have never visited a chiropractor, it is nice to have some idea of what to expect. Your visit will be very similar to visiting other healthcare providers, but chiropractic care also has some unique elements. Usually, a visit to a chiropractor will involve some form of intake, physical exam, and treatment. Let’s explore these in further detail.

Intake
The initial chiropractic intake is very comparable to an initial medical consultation at a doctor’s office. You will probably complete a questionnaire about your health, personal information, and your health history. You may be asked to pinpoint where you are experiencing chiropractic symptoms, as well as mark a scale for the severity of your pain.

Physical Exam
A routine physical exam is performed, followed by a closer examination of your spine. Your whole spine will be examined even if only one portion is causing you trouble, though your chiropractor will pay close attention to the area that is causing issues. Additionally, they’ll examine areas that are likely related to your pain areas, such as your neck or legs.

For example, if you are experiencing low back pain, your neck may be examined because issues in one area can result in pain in a different area. The exam may include assessments such as reflex tests, range of motion tests, palpations, neurological tests, muscle strength, and orthopedic tests. Each test will be focused on the area that is causing you trouble.

If you need an exam for your pain or issues, contact us here at Thriveology in Denver for all your chiropractic needs.

Treatment Plans
After your physical exam and assessments are completed, your chiropractor will determine what kind of treatment plan would be best. In making this determination, your chiropractor will take other issues into account. These issues may include:

  • Your overall health
  • Your spine’s condition
  • Your age and any additional injuries past and present
  • The extent of your pain or irritation
  • What you are expecting from treatment (goals)

Goals can be a very important part of your treatment plan. Some people simply want their pain to vanish while others also want to improve their overall health. Additionally, some people have more than one chiropractic symptom and their goals may be more complex. It is important that you and your chiropractor have a good understanding of your condition as well as your expectations. It is also important to make sure that any questions you have are answered. At Thriveology, we welcome them!

Typical Treatment
Though there are a number of other methods of treatment that your chiropractor may use, the main treatment is going to involve spinal adjustments. Additionally, adjustments may be made to other areas besides your spine. All treatments we offer are designed to improve your overall function and health.
